Our Philosphy
We believe that everyone should focus on meaningful work that sparks them. If you are caught in the drudgery of making things happen, then the spark is lost for that work, and it will show in the end result.
What sparks us? Creating tools that make managing, creating, and delivering accessible media-enriched presentations easy. Let the tools and computer do the hard work while you focus on what you do best!
Our Story
John Elliott (founder) joined The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton in 2014. Not long after, he was recruited to help project hymn words on the wall for members of the congregation. who either didn’t get a hymnal, or who had vision challenges and needed something with bigger print than what was in the hymnal books.
After the first “Words on the Wall” projections, the feedback poured in. Members of the congregation loved being able to read the hymn words on the wall, but wanted larger font sizes. This meant producing many more presentation slides for every Sunday morning service. Copying and pasting one hymn line per slide was a tedious task.
As it happened, John had over two decades of experience as a software programmer and solutions architect. Repetitive copy/pasting on a weekly basis just didn’t compute with him – a better, more efficient means to produce the Words on the Wall was necessary. As time went on more functionality was added to the tool, providing support for graphics and video.
During the Covid-19 lockdowns, the Church switched to delivering virtual services. Volunteers would capture videos of themselves singing which would then be played during the virtual service. John then developed a tool to easily create and play captioned videos.
Once the lockdowns eased, the Church pivoted again to hybrid delivery: the congregation met both in-person and remotely every Sunday morning. This allowed John to further fine tune the creation and delivery of presentations, in this new hybrid mode.
Laila Khimani (Founder), an MBA grad and entrepreneur with a background in technology implementations in non-profit and corporate environments, was the first to see the business potential in the toolset. Date night then turned into strategizing and planning how to consolidate the various functionality into one software package. Through the process they realized the potential was not limited to churches, but really, anyone who had to manage and deliver presentations.
And TapTap.events was thus born.
TapTap.events allows users to create, manage, and deliver accessible presentations with ease. Once event templates are created and the basic structure of your events configured, creating new events (church service, wedding presentations, celebrations of life) is a few taps away. Creating event presentations has never been easier and more efficient.
John and Laila have many items on the roadmap, including collaborative asset building, tighter cloud integration, a more advanced subtitle solution, among other things.
